I worked this morning and my mom called to say he is still very very sick but getting better. She said he smiled and tried to mouth many words to him. She said it took her a while but finally realized he was asking her "Why am I here?" and she said to not worry about it now and that you are in good hands here at the hospital. I saw him today and he was "talking" up a storm (whoa whoa slow down buddy)but I am a terrible lip reader and had no idea what he was saying. Jonathan and I went in there and Jonathan said that he thinks my dad had no idea who he was at first but then he recognized him. Oh but maaaaaaaaaaaaaan does he not like the nurse. Nurse Jennifer III is a super nice nurse who is happy go lucky. But to my dad she was Nurse Ratched she was poking my dad with needles and moving him around. She asked him "Do you hate me" and he nodded his head like a two year old throwing a tantrum. She said, "Good hate me and shake your head it tells me you are more alert that's what we want." His arterial line that was an IV to measure his blood pressure was not working anymore so they had to work all afternoon to find another vein to put it in. NO LUCK! They decided to wait and try again tomorrow since my dad had enough. We asked my dad if he was ready to get out of here and boy did he shake that head fast up and down. I told him "Well dad unfortunately your house in Cypress is not a state of the art hospital facility with a world renowned trauma unit equipped with stellar nurses and doctors so you are stuck" Or is it? No its not, seriously. They are talking about moving him to another bed with a TV in the room, we are hoping so, since he is more alert now he can watch and enjoy TV. Man they will have to pry mom off the chair in his room if that becomes true. So in other words Mr. V is getting a little bit better each day. I told him to keep it up and that he probably doesn't believe that he is actually better then he was before. I said "Dad there is plenty of time to tell you what happened." They took out one of his chest tubes that drained fluids on his right side since he was not draining anymore fluid. He is recovering well from his urinary tract infection, he is producing more urine and its getting lighter. So yay some little victories. He is still very very very very very sick but slowly he is getting better. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts for Mr. V and his recovery.

Delena, this is such great news! I know I haven't commented in a while but I have been keeping up with your posts daily. We all continue to pray for your family, especially your dad. I am glad he is more responsive now. That sounds like a HUGE step to me.
Also, thanks for the birthday wishes.
Delena, I am sooooo proud of you and your attitude, contribution and faith during this trauma. You are being so strong and level headed. It seems God is with you and your family and is working miracles. You are blessed and so is your dad. I'm sure if you and your mom and extended family were not there cheering him on, we would not be doing so well. Keep up the good work and you all are still in my prayers. XOXO (Barb)
Delana, I heard about Roel through others here in Kingsville. My family has prayed for him since we heard. I am glad to hear he is progressing and acknowleging. The first to tell me about his accident was Noel de la Rosa. As soon as he is able to talk on a phone please forward me his number. I can be reached at benfig2000@hotmail.com or 361-522-2666. My wife Edna and I have included him in our daily rosary. The healing power of the Lord is great as is the support of a loving and caring wife and daughter. Blessings to Roel as well as you and your mom.

Delena, We've been keeping up with your updates. It's good to hear that Roel is more responsive. I was at the chapel early this morning saying my prayers which, of course, included your dad and your family. I read the information on the upcoming Blood Drive and we'll certainly schedule an appointment. We should be eligible to donate by that time. Our prayers are with you. God bless. Janie & Richard Perales
These updates keeping getting better and better!!! I am sooo happy to hear about his progress. We will keep praying for him.
Love ya'll,
